Getting your Singapore visa approved is a milestone, not the finish line. Two more steps still stand between approval and actually being cleared to move around Singapore: the SG Arrival Card, and the Visit Pass issued at the checkpoint.
Confirm your travel plans
Once approved, you can finalise flights and accommodation with more confidence — though it's still worth double-checking your visa's validity window against your actual travel dates before booking anything non-refundable.
File the SG Arrival Card
Within three days before you land, submit the SG Arrival Card (SGAC) — a free, mandatory digital arrival and health declaration through ICA's e-service. This is completely separate from your visa; having an approved visa does not exempt you from filing it. See SG Arrival Card for exactly how and when to submit it.
What happens at the checkpoint
On arrival, an immigration officer reviews your documents and issues a Visit Pass (e-Pass) digitally — emailed to you, no physical passport stamp, since March 2022. This is the document that actually authorises your stay in Singapore; the visa got you to this point, but the Visit Pass is what makes your presence lawful during the visit. Be ready to describe your purpose of visit consistently with what your application stated.
During your stay
Keep a copy of your Visit Pass details accessible for the duration of your trip. Your permitted length of stay is tied to what's issued at the checkpoint, so check it against your planned departure date rather than assuming it automatically matches your visa's full validity window.
Before you fly
- Recheck your visa validity dates against your actual travel dates
- File the SG Arrival Card within the three-day window before arrival
- Carry your passport, visa approval, and supporting documents together for the checkpoint

Frequently asked questions
Does an approved visa mean I'm automatically allowed to enter Singapore?
Not automatically — an immigration officer still reviews your documents at the checkpoint and issues the Visit Pass, which is what actually authorises entry.
Do I still need the SG Arrival Card if my visa is already approved?
Yes — it's a separate, mandatory requirement for every traveller, independent of visa approval.
Will I get a passport stamp when I enter Singapore?
No — since March 2022, the Visit Pass has been issued digitally by email rather than as a physical passport stamp.
Practical checks at a glance
| Check | What good preparation looks like | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Identity | Passport data and applicant details match exactly | Identity mismatches can affect the whole file |
| Purpose | Tourism, family visit or temporary business activity is stated clearly | The evidence should fit the declared visit |
| Dates | Forms, itinerary, accommodation and transport align | Conflicting dates create avoidable questions |
| Funding | The trip cost and source of funds are credible | No universal balance figure replaces context |
Do and don't checklist
Do
- Recheck all names and dates
- Use current, readable evidence
- Keep travel arrangements flexible before approval
Don't
- Do not alter supporting documents
- Do not rely on guaranteed timelines
- Do not confuse a visa, Visit Pass and SG Arrival Card

A strong application is built by checking the connected requirement, not by treating one document in isolation.
