Singapore Visa for Indians
Indian ordinary passport holders are not on Singapore's visa-free list, so almost every Indian traveller — whether it's a family holiday, a wedding, or a business meeting — needs to sort out a visa before flying. This page is the starting point: what the visa actually covers, who needs it, how the application works from India, and where to go next depending on why you're travelling.
Do Indians Need a Visa for Singapore?
Yes. Unlike many Southeast Asian destinations that admit Indian travellers visa-free or on arrival, Singapore requires Indian passport holders to obtain a visa before departure. This applies regardless of trip length or purpose — a two-day stopover for a wedding and a two-week holiday both need one, unless your specific circumstances fall under a different arrangement you should confirm before booking.
The Two Real Visa Categories
Despite the dozens of search terms people use — tourist visa, visitor visa, visit visa, social visit visa — there are really only two categories that matter for short-term travel:
- Tourist / social visit — leisure travel, sightseeing, honeymoons, and visiting family or friends. See our Singapore Tourist Visa page.
- Short-term business visit — meetings, conferences, exhibitions, and trade events. See our Singapore Business Visa page.
Both are strictly short-term visit categories. Neither one permits employment, a local salary, or paid work of any kind in Singapore — if your goal is actually to work or relocate, this is not the right visa and Visa Expertz does not handle work-pass applications.
How the Application Process Works
Individuals based in India cannot file a visa application directly with Singapore's Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) — applications are submitted through an authorised visa application channel. In practice, that means your documents are reviewed, prepared to the format ICA expects, and submitted on your behalf. We cover this in more detail on our how to apply page, and the India-specific mechanics — applying from Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, or any other city — are covered on our Singapore Visa from India page.
What Documents Are Generally Needed
The exact list depends on your purpose of travel, but most applications draw from the same core set: a valid passport with adequate remaining validity, a recent photograph meeting the required specification, a completed application form, and supporting documents for your specific trip — an itinerary for leisure travel, or an invitation letter from the host company for business visits. Our full documents checklist breaks this down by scenario.
Fees, Timelines, and What to Expect
We keep this deliberately general rather than quoting fixed numbers, because both fees and processing times can shift and depend on your specific case. Our visa fees and processing time pages explain what's indicative versus what you should reconfirm before applying — the safest approach is always to apply as early as your travel dates allow.
Visa, Visit Pass, and SG Arrival Card — Not the Same Thing
A visa is only pre-travel permission. On arrival, you're separately granted a digital Visit Pass (e-Pass) at the checkpoint, and you must also submit the SG Arrival Card online within 3 days before you arrive — a free mandatory declaration that is not a visa and doesn't replace one. Getting these three confused is one of the most common mistakes we see.
Travelling for a Specific Reason?
If your trip fits a narrower scenario, these pages go deeper: attending a conference or trade fair, travelling for medical treatment, or transiting through Singapore en route elsewhere. We also support applicants across India — see our cities we serve page, or get in touch and tell us about your trip.

Do Indian passport holders need a visa for Singapore?
Yes. Indian ordinary passport holders generally require a Singapore entry visa before travel — Singapore is not visa-free for Indian passports the way it is for many other nationalities.
Key Terms — Singapore Visa for Indians
Singapore Entry Visa
Pre-travel permission to enter Singapore. Indian passport holders generally need one before travel; it is applied for through an authorised visa application channel, not directly with ICA.
Visit Pass (e-Pass)
Granted digitally at the checkpoint when you arrive in Singapore — emailed, with no passport stamp (since 11 Mar 2022). This is different from the visa itself.
SG Arrival Card (SGAC)
A free, mandatory digital arrival and health declaration submitted online within 3 days before you arrive. It is not a visa and does not replace one.
Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA)
The Singapore government authority responsible for visa and entry decisions. Visa Expertz assists with preparation and submission only — final decisions rest with ICA.
Social Visit Pass
The official term for a tourist/social Singapore visit — covering leisure travel and visiting family or friends.
Short-Term Business Visit
A visit for meetings, conferences, exhibitions, or trade events. Not a work pass — no employment or salary in Singapore.
Authorised Visa Application Channel
Since individuals in India cannot file directly with ICA, applications are submitted through an authorised channel on the applicant's behalf.
