Yes. Indian passport holders need a visa to enter Singapore, whether the trip is a holiday, a family visit, or a short business trip. India is not on Singapore's visa-exempt list, so this applies regardless of how short the visit is.
What the visa actually is
The Singapore visa is pre-travel permission — approval you obtain before you fly, based on your passport, travel dates, and purpose of visit. Singapore's Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) does not accept visa applications directly from individuals based in India, so applications are routed through an authorised agent or channel rather than filed as a walk-in application.
Once you land in Singapore, a second and separate step happens at the checkpoint: you're issued a Visit Pass, sometimes called an e-Pass. This is granted digitally — emailed to you, with no physical stamp in your passport since March 2022 — and it's what actually permits you to be in Singapore for your visit. The visa gets you to the airport with permission to travel; the Visit Pass is what an immigration officer issues once you're actually there.
A third document: the SG Arrival Card
Separately, travellers who are required by ICA must submit the SG Arrival Card (SGAC), a free digital arrival and health declaration, within three days before arrival through ICA's own e-service. It is not a visa and does not replace one; skipping it doesn't affect your visa but can hold you up at the checkpoint. See our SG Arrival Card guide for how and when to file it.
Who this applies to
- Tourists and holidaymakers travelling for sightseeing or leisure
- Travellers visiting friends or family socially
- Professionals attending a short business meeting, conference, or trade exhibition
It does not cover taking up a job or salaried role in Singapore — that runs through an entirely different process outside what this guide, or a short-term visit visa, can offer.

Frequently asked questions
Is the Singapore visa the same as the Visit Pass?
No. The visa is approval granted before travel; the Visit Pass is issued digitally at the Singapore checkpoint once you arrive, and is the document that actually authorises your stay.
Do children travelling with parents need their own visa?
Yes, each traveller, including children, needs their own visa application regardless of age.
Does having a Singapore visa guarantee entry?
No. The visa allows you to travel to the checkpoint; the immigration officer still decides on entry and issues the Visit Pass at that point.
Practical checks at a glance
| Check | What good preparation looks like | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Identity | Passport data and applicant details match exactly | Identity mismatches can affect the whole file |
| Purpose | Tourism, family visit or temporary business activity is stated clearly | The evidence should fit the declared visit |
| Dates | Forms, itinerary, accommodation and transport align | Conflicting dates create avoidable questions |
| Funding | The trip cost and source of funds are credible | No universal balance figure replaces context |

Don't
- Do not alter supporting documents
- Do not rely on guaranteed timelines
- Do not confuse a visa, Visit Pass and SG Arrival Card

A strong application is built by checking the connected requirement, not by treating one document in isolation.
