Entering Singapore as an Indian traveller involves more than a single document — it's a short sequence of requirements that need to line up correctly before, and right up to, the moment you land.

Before you travel

  • A visa, arranged through an authorised agent or channel since ICA doesn't accept direct individual applications from India
  • A passport with sufficient remaining validity and blank pages
  • A clear travel plan — accommodation and onward/return travel details

Just before arrival

Within three days before arrival, travellers who are required by ICA must submit the SG Arrival Card (SGAC) — a free digital arrival and health declaration through ICA's e-service. This is separate from your visa and doesn't replace it; both are required independently.

At the checkpoint

On arrival, an immigration officer reviews your documents and issues a Visit Pass (e-Pass) digitally — emailed to you, no passport stamp, since March 2022. This is the actual authorisation to be in Singapore for your visit; it's issued after your visa, not instead of it. Officers may also ask about your purpose of visit, so be ready to describe it consistently with what your documents state.

What officers typically want to see line up

  • Your stated purpose of visit matches your supporting documents
  • Your length of stay matches your accommodation and return travel
  • Your proof of funds is consistent with your travel plan

What Singapore entry does not cover

None of this process — visa, SG Arrival Card, or Visit Pass — permits taking up employment or a salaried role in Singapore. A tourist/social visit or short-term business visit covers travel, meetings, and events, not work; that requires an entirely different route outside anything this guide covers.

Putting it together

See Singapore Visa vs SG Arrival Card for how these pieces differ, and Singapore Visa for Indians for the full application process from the India side.

Frequently asked questions

What's the very first document I need before travelling to Singapore?

The visa, arranged before you travel through an authorised agent or channel.

Is the SG Arrival Card required even if I already have a visa?

Yes, it's a separate, independent requirement for every traveller.

What happens if my documents don't match at the checkpoint?

The immigration officer may ask further questions or request clarification before issuing the Visit Pass, so consistency across your documents matters.

Don't

  • Do not alter supporting documents
  • Do not rely on guaranteed timelines
  • Do not confuse a visa, Visit Pass and SG Arrival Card

A strong application is built by checking the connected requirement, not by treating one document in isolation.
